Feathering My Nest’s TV Debut!…

April 8, 2015

Yep!… you read that right kittens!… I was on TV last night!…  A few weeks back I filmed two segments for an episode of Kim’s Kitchen, a local Shaw Television Show hosted by the most awesome Kim Hayden!…

But before that let’s step back a little… At the Vixens of Vintage Christmas Market in Inglewood this past December a lady, with the sweetest retro style, walked into my booth and was chatting with my Pickle while I was checking in a customer.  After the customer was checked in and their treasured bagged the Pickle introduced me to Kim “This is my fiancé Lacey and these are her creations”… Kim had fallen in love with my tea cup lamps!… we got to chatting and set told me about her talk show called Kim’s Kitchen and asked for my card, and also gave me hers to connect in the future to talk about doing a DIY segment on her show!… I couldn’t believe it… I was floored! 🙂  Quite a number of weeks went by and then an email appeared… Kim wanted to meet to chat about potential diy segments for her show… so I got to work and put together some ideas and we met… when we got together for tea at a coffee shop in the South East we immediately clicked!… we definitely share a passion for salvaging, reloving and DIY’ing!

I was excited and nervous previously at just the thought of being on TV… but once it became official!?  eek!  The Pickle and I celebrated with a bottle of… BUBBLY!… of course!… and then I got to work on not just one but on TWO diy segments!… I sat down at my computer and pecked away until I had everything written step by step, full materials and tool lists, as well as the times that doing each step would take so that the film crew had a good idea of what we were doing and to help them edit the segment down later… I made a shopping list and got all of the supplies in order and then prepped the stages of each of the DIY – the whole TV magic of putting the batter in the oven and instantly pulling out a baked cake!… I WAS READY!… well almost…

The Pickle sat through a couple dry runs of my segments just to be sure that I’d captured all of the necessary steps, and tips about tool or material use 🙂 The night before filming I packed up all of the supplies and tools and we ran them to the set for filming the following day…

Of course I was nervous the day of filming… what if I couldn’t remember what to say? What if I tripped up on my words? What if something went wrong while filming… but with some sweet words of encouragement from my Pickle and my friends the excitement quickly took over the nervous feelings… and Kim and her cohosts were so warm and inviting… oh yeah did I mention yet that I had my wisdom teeth out only 5 days prior!?… and they were healing slowly!?… luckily I’d been icing a lot and did NOT have a swollen chipmunk face or any bruising!  *fewf*

Okay… well maybe a little chipmunk-y… I watched other guests film their segments and then it was my turn!… I pulled out all of my supplies and laid everything out in order to moving quickly and easily from step to step… and then we started filming!… the teacup segment was an hour straight of filming to be edited down into 5 minutes!… and with just a couple hiccups I felt great when it was done… even with the few hiccups that had happened… hiccups that we chuckled about while filming… one even make it to the outtakes reel!… be sure to watch the show right to the end credits to see it 😉
